Saving Hundreds of Dollars on Your Auto & Homeowner Insurance

An former client of mine called me this week. They used to be my client when I worked for another large insurance carrier. They found me through a Google search.

We compared Auto & Homeowner's insurance. The result? We were able to save them about $500 per year.

Why? They were insured with a "captive" carrier. That is, an insurance company that only offers ONE rate - their own. They did not have the ability to shop around to find the client a better rate.

We can.

If you are currently with a captive carrier, like State Farm, Farmers, Allstate, Country Insurance, American Family, Geico, Liberty Mutual or one of the dozens of others - you should let us quote your insurance.

We will compare what you pay now against 12-15 other top-ranked, "A" rated companies.

Understanding U.S. Automakers

Why does it seem U.S. Automakers are always late in responding to changing market conditions? It happened in the 70's when American consumers bought the smaller and more economical Japanese vehicles.

I read an article recently where U.S. Automakers are ONLY NOW shutting down Truck and/or SUV manufacturing plants to convert them to build smaller cars. This process will take up to 18 months!

The reason? Sales of larger vehicles are WAY, WAY DOWN. The sales of smaller vehicles are WAY WAY UP. What a surprise, huh?

One year ago, I considered the ramifications of owning a lower-mileage pickup in the event gas prices increased, and I sold it. I bought a small/midsize economy car that gets pretty good gas mileage. Granted, not even I envisioned $4.00 gas. But c'mon Detroit, where is your "pulse" on the market?

If a normal consumer like me could envision the possibility of gas prices going up ONE YEAR AGO - where is Detroit's head.

Is it any wonder we have lost so many valuable manufacturing jobs to overseas.

I once heard a phrase: Paralysis by Analysis. It might fit Detroit. They may spend so much time analyzing things like profit margins they simply miss the market signals. Then again, there may so much more profit in the large trucks and SUV vehicles that they just put off the inevitable. Too bad, because they are late to the party once again.

Even though gas prices are high, you do not have to pay high CAR INSURANCE rates.

Gas Thefts

As more and more people are reporting stolen gas, merchants are reporting a significant increase in the sales of "Locking" gas caps.

These caps may deter some thieves, who move on to an easier target. But locking caps are easily thwarted.

Some tips: Buy a locking gas cap. Even if not a permanent resolution, it is a step toward discouraging thieves from siphoning gas. Park in a lighted area, or in a garage, if possible. Install theft devices that detect motion on your vehicle.

If you have any other suggestions or ideas, please post them here.

Old Gas Pump

Motivated by high gas prices, thieves have turned to stealing gas from vehicles, instead of the vehicles themselves.

Some states are reporting substantial increases in gasoline theft.

The thefts are mostly relegated to business and commercial vehicles that are left unattended overnight and weekends. These types of vehicles often have much larger tanks. Thieves are slicing the gas line, and inserting the line into a standard garden hose which runs to a container.

If the trend gains momentum, and gas prices continue to surge, it would not seem far fetched for thieves to target those "regular" vehicles that appear vulnerable.

The next trend? People putting alarms on gas tanks, perhaps??

Were you ever insured with a company like State Farm, Allstate or Farmer's and loved your agent?

You loved your agent, but what happened when their rates go up?

You are forced to not only find a new insurance company but a new agent too.

We cannot control the rates of insurers (no agent can). But at least you do not have to change agents with us.

Our # 1 Arizona Independent Insurance Agency represents so many different "A" rated carriers we almost always can find a competitive rate if one company changes their prices.

EXAMPLE: One of our clients added a teen driver, and one of the driver's also had an at-fault accident during the year. At renewal, their rate changed. We successfully shopped around to find them a rate nearly the same as they were paying before.

The client is happy because they did not have to spend hours of their own time shopping for a new agent they did not know or trust. We found them a very competitive rate and did all the work.

Everybody was happy!

Plus, we did all the work by shopping around for them. Most people hate making those insurance calls from company to company. You do not have to any longer - we literally do most of the work for you.

Most of the insurance advertisements on TV today are by companies like Geico, State Farm and Allstate. In other words, major corporations.

You likely will not see an ad by an Independent Insurance Broker, however.

The reason? They typically have smaller offices and are small agencies. They usually cannot afford the cost of tv advertising.

But when searching for the best insurance rate, that small independent insurance broker may be the best place to find the best rates.

Those major companies that dominate the airwaves usually have their own agents who sell their insurance. Their agents are restricted because they can only offer the one company.

Independent Insurance Brokers do not have such restrictions. They can write insurance for many carriers, increasing the odds of finding you a better rate.

The next time you want to compare your insurance premiums, use an IIB, such as Independent Insurance Broker

Insurance Today VS Insurance Yesterday

In days past people often bought insurance because the agent was close by. That's not the case any longer.

Today we have internet, cell phones, text messaging, websites, 1-800 numbers.

While we still want good customer service, getting it does not rely upon your agent being a block away. You know you can communicate with him/her in a variety of ways. Not only that, most insurance companies have a web presence and their own toll free phone numbers.

In addition, in the old days that agent down the street usually only represented ONE company.

Today, independent insurance agents (such as Choice Insurance of Arizona) represent multiple carriers, like MetLife, AAA, Progressive, Travelers, Kemper, GMAC, The Hartford and many more!

If you still buy insurance from an agent based upon location and geography, open yourself up a bit.

We have clients all across Arizona. That does not stop us from being a good agent and from providing good rates.
